Innovative blood control technology helps significantly reduce blood contact risks for healthcare workers.
Jakarta, May 23, 2026 – B. Braun Indonesia, a world-leading medical technology company headquartered in Germany, officially launched Introcan Safety® 3 (IS3) today. This next-generation intravenous (IV) catheter is specifically designed to tackle the high risk of blood exposure amongst healthcare professionals through its innovative blood control septum technology, establishing a "zero blood exposure" safety standard.
Daily clinical procedures continue to expose nurses and doctors to blood putting them at high risk. According to a systematic clinical review (Fereidouni et al., 2018), contact with blood and body fluids occurs far more frequently than other workplace incidents, up to 10 times higher than needle stick injuries making it a major occupational challenge in hospitals. To address this issue specifically, B. Braun introduced a new blood control technology that supports a “zero visible blood contact” approach during routine procedures.
“Indonesia is a strategic market that requires precise, integrated, and reliable healthcare solutions,” said Rainer Ruppel, President Director of B. Braun Indonesia, at the launch event held at Thamrin Nine, Central Jakarta. “The introduction of Introcan Safety® 3 reflects our commitment to bringing global safety innovations to Indonesia that help to protect healthcare professionals while supporting high-quality patient care.”
Introcan Safety® 3 is designed with automatic safety that activates instantly during use, minimize workplace incidents without requiring additional steps from the user. This passive safety feature supports hospital staff by reducing exposure risks while maintaining efficiency in daily clinical workflows.
During a scientific discussion attended by hospital management representatives from across Indonesia and various nursing professional organizations—including PPNI, HIPPII, HIMPONI, and INA-PERSAI—the urgency of healthcare professional protection was the primary focus.
Dr. Masfuri, Chairman of the Indonesian Intravenous Access Seminars Association (INA-PERSAI), emphasized the importance of adopting closed-system technology. "Advancements in IV catheter technology have become the new standard for providing additional security for healthcare professionals against blood exposure while reducing the risk of pathogen transmission to patients. This significantly impacts patient satisfaction and comfort," he stated.
Through this precise and secure innovation, Introcan Safety® 3 is engineered to support hospital efficiency and advance occupational safety standards. B. Braun Indonesia strengthens its role in supporting the national healthcare transformation toward a safer, more modern, and internationally standardized system.
