Increasing Hand Hygiene Awareness in Healthcare Facilities

Hand Hygiene Awareness to Control Infection in Healthcare Facilities

26 September 2022 – B. Braun Indonesia collaborated with the Management of the Indonesian Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Association (“HIPPII”) to hold an International Webinar with the topic “Hand Hygiene Program in Healthcare Facility”.

A release from the World Health Organization revealed that 61% of health workers worldwide do not perform hand hygiene properly. This causes the death of 16 million patients due to Hospital Associated Infection (“HAI”). To increase awareness of infection control in health facilities, B. Braun Indonesia collaborated with the Management of the Indonesian Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Association (“HIPPII”) to hold an International Webinar with the topic “Hand Hygiene Program in Healthcare Facility” on Saturday, 24 September 2022.

Attended by around 2,500 participants from various health providers, the event also invited Dr. Ns. Elis Puji Utami, S. Kep., MPH., FISQua, as chairman of HIPPII, who explained how improving Hospital External Quality with the Hand Hygiene Program can control infection in health facilities.

"External quality is used to assess the level of services in a hospital. The description of the hospital services quality can be seen from whether there is a implementation monitoring of the hand hygiene compliance. For this reason, the role of hospital leadership is very important to monitor and ensure that hand hygiene practice in the hospital environment are carried out properly and sustainably," She added.

Meanwhile, F. Sales Saputro, Product Manager of Infection Prevention from B. Braun Indonesia added, infections in the health facilities are often related to the compliance by health workers in carrying out hand hygiene. The lower the hand hygiene compliance rate, the higher the incidence of HAI.

“HAI can be prevented up to 50% by doing hand hygiene correctly and consistently. For this reason, special strategies are needed at the hospital management level and are supported with the quality of hand hygiene products. In a sense, this product meets international standards efficacy and is convenient for everyday use by health workers, such as SoftaRub," added Sales.

Infection Prevention and Control is an effort to ensure protection for everyone against the possibility of contracting an infection. Both when receiving health services in various health facilities and from the public. Collaboration with this association is expected to have a bigger and wider positive impact on health practitioners. As reflected in the B. Braun's commitment to the value of sharing expertise to participate as a partner for health practitioners in seeking the best and safest therapeutic solutions for patients and health practitioners.

Dr. Ns. Elis Puji Utami, S. Kep., MPH., FISQua, as chairman of HIPPII, explained how Improving Hospital External Quality in the Hand Hygiene Program can help control infection in health facilities.
