The company met its commitment by inaugurating the operation of Solar Power Plant (PLTS) at B-Braun Indonesia factory in Cikampek, Karawang-West Java on Thursday, 18 January 2024. 

The inauguration of this PLTS was held by Head of Karawang Manpower and Transmigration Office, Rosmalia Dewi, S.H., M.H on behalf of the Regent of Karawang, H. Aep Syaepuloh, S.E., in the presence of the President Director of B. Braun Indonesia, Rainer Ruppel.

Rosmalia Dewi on behalf Karawang Regent’s said “We highly appreciate B Braun Indonesia’s measures as one of efforts to promote fossil fuels to new renewable energy conversion through the operation of solar panel to meet the electricity needs of its assets. We hope B, Braun will consistently increase capacity of its PLTS, and other corporations will follow this initiative on the use of this renewable energy to minimize carbon footprint.”

The operation of PLTS becomes one of B. Braun Indonesia’s efforts to support the company’s use of renewable energy and energy transition steps to supply electricity to each of its assets, like production facilities.

“B. Braun Indonesia has strong commitment to supporting Indonesian government’s programs of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) reduction and renewable energy policy,” Rainer said in his speech. “The operation of Solar Power Plant to supply each of our assets with electricity underscores one of B. Braun Indonesia’s initiatives in energy transition and CO2 emissions reduction efforts by trimming consumption of fossil energy.”  

This Solar Power Plant is capable of producing 1,673 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity per year and can meet about 20-30 percent of the electricity needs at the B. Braun Indonesia factory. The operation of this solar panel is expected to contribute to reducing carbon emissions by up to 25 percent (346 tons) of carbon emissions per year. Rainer also stated that B. Braun globally aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 50 percent by 2030.

“To support carbon emissions reduction, the operation of PLTS is in line with government’s target to achieve 23% new renewable energy mix by 2025 and Net Zero Emissions by 2060,” Rainer revealed.

In addition to operation of PLTS, B. Braun Indonesia has activated a wide range of energy transition initiatives and made investment to bring positive contribution to environment. B. Braun Indonesia has implemented eco-friendly factory concept by using natural light and energy saving technology. Moreover, B. Braun Indonesia has optimized Internet of Things (IoT) in production of basic infusion fluids and tree planting around its production facilities to improve air quality and cut pollution.
