B. Braun Supports Indonesia Healthcare Digital Transformation Through Its Smart Infusion Ecosystem

24 February 2023 – B. Braun supports Indonesia healthcare digital transformation through its smart infusion ecosystem: Space®plus infusion pump & OnlineSuiteplus applications.

B. Braun’s investment in its smart infusion ecosystem is in line with the Indonesia Minister of Health strategic framework on Digital Healthcare Ecosystem for 2024, that refers to all medical aspects such as clinical care, administration, and support services. Space®plus  and OnlineSuiteplus make up a unique ecosystem that allows seamless flow of infusion data into the hospital’s network. Each pump is equipped with an integrated WiFi module, resulting in a continuous bidirectional exchange of infusion data – even during transport, with high cyber security protection.

Studies have shown that infusion pumps are involved in 35-60% of the estimated 770,000 adverse drug events (ADEs) that occur each year. To reduce infusion errors, hospitals demand smart devices that are connected to the hospital network. Therefore, the urge for digital transformation in the healthcare sector is highly needed to improved patient outcomes, increased man power’s efficiency, optimize cost usage, and enhanced collaboration as well as medical data management.

Also present to support this transformation initiatives were:  German Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E Ina Lepel, B. Braun Global Head of Product Security, Joern Lubadel; and President Director B. Braun Indonesia, Rainer Ruppel.

Statement of Duta Besar Jerman untuk Indonesia, H.E Ina Lepel:

“Good healthcare systems go hand in hand with advanced healthcare technologies. Technology requires highly skilled engineers that develop solutions for current challenges. We are delighted to see that German health industry has such great minds. Our companies are all part of our strong industrial tradition that stands for constant innovation and is at the forefront of scientific research. B. Braun is one of the best examples. With over 66.000 employees in 64 countries, B. Braun is one of the world’s leading healthcare companies serving healthcare professionals with innovative medical products and solutions. We are proud that B. Braun has a huge footprint in Indonesia providing smart healthcare business solutions and working on the ground in Karawang and Tabanan. Today’s launch of the Space®plus and OnlineSuiteplus  is a further success in the long history of B. Braun in Indonesia.

In general, there is a lot of potential in health cooperation between Germany and Indonesia. One example is digital transformation in healthcare that is at the core of today’s discussions. The advantages of digital transformation globally and in Indonesia in particular are apparent. Allow me to highlight three examples: (1) digital transformation can help reduce costs by streamlining processes and improving efficiency; (2) digital transformation can contribute to better quality care by enabling the collection and analysis of large amounts of patient data and providing decision-support tools for clinicians; (3) digital technologies can help fill the gap caused by the shortage of healthcare providers by enabling remote consultations and the sharing of medical expertise To put it briefly, digital transformation can contribute to improved patient outcomes, increased efficiency, cost savings and better data management. The German government stand ready to support the Indonesian healthcare system in this effort. In this context, it is of utmost importance that we further boost health cooperation between our countries based on mutual benefit and respect. That is why our health ministries agreed upon a Joint Declaration of health cooperation in 2021 that strives for closer collaboration in the fields of health services, disease prevention and control, public health, pharmaceutical and medical devices, and human resources for the development of the health sector. Having said that let me conclude by wishing you fruitful discussion and renew our assurance that the embassy will assist any cooperation between our two countries in health industry,” said H.E Ina Lepel.

B. Braun Global Head of Product Security, Joern Lubadel, stated:

“At B. Braun, security is not just a marketing claim. It is in the DNA of every product. 70 years of innovation in infusion therapy is now combined with state-of-the-art security. How can our latest infusion system meet this high standard? We set out to create a completely new infusion system with a focus on safety and security, not just a facelift.

The Space®plus & OnlineSuiteplus ecosystem is setting a new benchmark in healthcare cybersecurity thanks to its security-comes-first approach. It features an innovative hardware and software architecture designed in compliance with industry-leading best practices and the latest international recommendations and standards (ISO/NIST). For both security and reliability, IT communication and infusion pump core functions are strictly separated in the system architecture. By making this fundamental change, our infusion pump system is unique on the market.

When combined with OnlineSuiteplus, it provides the data source for continuous quality improvements in infusion therapy. This is the intelligent digital infusion system for hospitals that want to offer their patients individualized and safe infusion therapy with complete clinical flexibility.

The Space®plus & OnlineSuiteplus ecosystem is the digital solution of choice for the healthcare sector. Like any device and service in a connected ecosystem, it faces three challenges. The smart therapy ecosystem is scalable, flexible, and adaptable when it comes to cyber security issues,” said Joern.

President Director of B. Braun Indonesia, Rainer Ruppel, stated:

“B. Braun is demonstrating again its ongoing commitment to support the development of the Indonesian Healthcare Market. Not only by investing into local product capacities for parts of our portfolio, providing continuous training and education for healthcare professionals but also by bringing latest technologies to speed up the digital transformation to improve and protect health of people in Indonesia,” said Rainer.

Space®plus is B. Braun’s latest generation of infusion pump, while OnlineSuiteplus  is the generation of innovative software applications for the digital management of B. Braun infusion pumps in hospitals. Space®plus  in combination with OnlineSuiteplus  is “The Digital Infusion System” for hospitals that want to offer their patients a complex, individual, and safe infusion therapy with maximum medical options.

Winning 5 Design awards (RedDot, iF Design award, Chicago’s Good Design award, Taiwan Golden Pin, German design award) for Medical Devices and Technology, Space®plus solid design gives this infusion pump system outstanding portability and resilience. The operation of Space®plus is highly user-friendly and intuitive and can be adapted to clinical workflows to reduce medication errors.
